There are loads of versions of the iconic London Underground map by Harry Beck, known for its simplicity of design. This is my version. Simple: half way between Complex and Obvious, where Subtle and Refined meet. The font used in the real current map is a modified form of Underground designed by Edward Johnston in 1916. One of Johnston's pupils was Eric Gill, who designed Gill Sans (which I've used here) based on Underground. After a quick search you can get hold of some versions of Underground here (pay) and here (free). Labels: Illustration Friday
