Illustration Friday: E is for.....

My favourite alphabet has got to be Edward Gorey's 'The Gashlycrumb Tinies'. I love the pale, sad children who all suffer strange and unusual fates: I think the best is 'N is for Neville who died of ennui'. My version of Ernest and his fruity doom is above.
There's an online version of the Tinies here. (You have to read it with Vincent Price's voice in your head for full effect.)
E is also for the Earnest hope that no one had the same idea as me.

This made me laugh out loud with the same delight I got from Gorey, one of my heros...he also liked cats. A wonderful tribute. Thanks for the giggle!

Oh yes-I own a copy of that book. At the art college I went to they had that whole book in poster form on the wall of the print shop at the school. It is sick but somehow so freakishly funny. Well done!

ha! I thought I was the only one who got such a kick out of those books. I own a copy also, and whenever someone picks it up, they look at me like I'm crazy! It's nice to know the humor is shared. Nice take on Ernest, btw.
