Illustration Friday: Ageing

'Ageing' sounds like a bit of a depressing topic but I think there's a lot of positive things about growing old: wisdom, grace and a greater appreciation of the moment as you realise time is fleeting. There's beauty too - older people are far more interesting to draw than younger people as their character and experience is written in their faces. Thinking along those lines [wrinkles?] I thought I'd do a pic of a leaf skeleton: showing the ageing process and the beauty that lies underneath.

Illustration Friday: Tranquility

I was originally going to cheat and put forward an old pic of a mermaid but I thought I'd stay true and do something new. I stayed with the 'mermaid' theme however, and came up with this flotation tank thing. Although I'm still getting the hang of digital art I was quite pleased with this as it was a very quick, minimal ink sketch that the colour has brought to life.

Illustration Friday: Karma

I admit I had to go and look this one up in the dictionary. Although 'karma' is used in everyday conversation I'm not sure people really know it's meaning, or at least I didn't. When I read about its associations with Buddhism I immediately thought of my first exposure to that religion: the rather flippant Japanese TV series 'Monkey'. Thus my picture is the scene where Monkey is reprimanded for his errant behaviour by Buddha.

I found a pic of the original [not bad memory if I do say so myself]:
